Ms. Betsch Must Haves:
The policies that will make our year successful!
Communication Policy: I believe that communication between school and home is the most important piece in our team work this year. I can be reached by phone at Shamrock Gardens 980-343-6440 or email amanda1.betsch @cms.k12.nc.us if you ever have any questions or concerns. It is also essential for me to have your updated phone number; therefore please send in a note if your current number ever changes!
Homework Policy: I will assign homework monthly. On the first of each month I will send home a newsletter including the homework for the entire month. The newsletters will layout the homework for the week as well as a reading log to record books read with your child each week. Please record the book that you have read with your child and initial each day. These will be collected at the end of each month. ** There will be no homework the first week!
Homework Binder Policy: I will be supplying your child with a homework binder for the year. Inside the binder you will see that the first inside pocket is labeled “return to school” and the other side is labeled “Keep at home”. The “keep at home” section should be emptied every night to keep us organized! The “Return to school” pocket is for the notes or papers that need to be completed and returned the next day. HOMEWORK can be completed daily on the loose leaf paper in your binders.(This is where I will be looking for the homework to check it… not in the “return to school” pocket). Please use one sheet for MULTIPLE days to conserve paper!
You will also find these sections in your homework binder:
· Agenda—used for PARENT-TEACHER communication, as well as completing student homework
· Homework—I will place each month’s homework calendar in a clear page protector
· Reading Log—to record your daily reading
· Newsletters—Updates with what is going on in the classroom and across Kindergarten
· Classroom Policies—As a reference for you
Reading Log Policy: In order for your child to become a successful reader this year, they must read, read, read! I am requiring that your child reads at least 15 minutes every night. You will find a reading log in your Homework Binder. You are to record what book they read and initial that you have read with your child. I have plenty of books in the classroom to lend out if you need some!
Behavior Policy: At Shamrock Gardens we work hard to establish a learning environment that helps each child work and learn. Each morning your child starts with a clean slate to follow the behavior expectations throughout the day! If inappropriate behavior begins and continues after fair warning, your child will receive a natural/appropriate consequence. These consequences may include silent lunch, loosing playtime at recess, or completing work during free time. If the misbehavior continues your child will fill out a “FOCUS TICKET” which documents the misbehavior and asks questions to help your child understand why what they did was wrong or inappropriate, and what the appropriate behavior is. You will be notified if your child is having any difficulty following classroom or school wide procedures.
** It is very important for us to communicate effectively so that your child knows the behavior expectations are the same at home and at school!
Agenda Policy: At the beginning of the year your child will receive a school-wide agenda notebook. I will be filling this notebook out at the end of each day with your child’s behavior (Green stamp or Smiley face if they had a good day, OR notification of any misbehaviors with brief description.) Please check their agenda each night and sign it so that I know you have seen and discussed with them the type of day they had. This is also a great place for you to write any notes for me that you may have because I check it every morning!
Student of the Month: Each month one to two students will be featured as student of the month. I will send home a student of the month poster which will highlight some of their favorite things. Please send this form back to school so your child can share their interests with the class. When they are student of the month they can also bring one small item that they would like to share with the class, as well as a favorite picture of themselves. Student of the week will be chosen in alphabetical order.
If you have any questions or concerns about these policies please do not hesitate to contact me!!
